Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy. But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I had to take a few days to really get my thoughts together about this book. It left me feeling wanting more yet disappointed.
I was really into this book. I couldn't put it down. Lauren Oliver has a way with her words and writing that keeps you reading. I couldn't stop reading and yet felt like the story wasn't progressing very well. It was like we spent the first half of the book just reading about her day to day life and then something interesting would happen and then it was back to her day to day boring life.
The second half of the book was great. I enjoyed it. I was shocked to read that her mother was in the Crypts the whole time. I really felt bad for her. Her love with Alex was really cute and sweet. I loved him.
On the subject of Alex, I can't believe she killed him off. I'm not cool with that. Poor girl.
Book two better be good. I'm giving this been 3 stars. I probably won't read it again.
